Genesis of fifty to seventy blog

I wrote this post a year ago and it was lost as I changed from one blog software to another.

Preamble: the story begins on February 1, 2008 – for the last two three months I had been feeling my heart. There were muscle spasms around where I imagine my heart to be and pains at times around the same area.

The other day I became aware of my mortality for the first time in my life. I was in Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles donating blood and the nurse told me my diastolic blood pressure was slightly high. I lead a healthy life style. I eat a mostly vegetarian diet, exercise sufficiently, relax using guided meditation.

So I was surprised that my blood pressure was too high. At first I blamed it on white coat syndrome. When I came home I checked my pressure and true it was much higher than I wanted. Now in reality it was in the prehypertension range, but that was already way higher than I expected or wanted. Immediately I did two things. I booked an appointment with my GP and stopped adding salt to my food. I also spent more time each day in self hypnosis and guided visualization to reduce my blood pressure.

As it happened, and it could be owing to the extra stress and anxiety of the potential heart problems that I ended up with a twenty four hour virus between the time I first became worried about my heart and my doctor’s visit. So by midweek my pulse rate was about thirty a minute higher than normal and my blood pressure reached 150 over 110. But I rested and mediated and healed whatever was the dis-ease and became at ease and when I saw my GP my EKG showed no problems and soon my blood pressure went down to 110 over 75 which is perfect.

I still have to go to a cardiologist to do a stress test but I feel confident that it will demonstrate that my heart is well. And, even if it shows a problem I know I will cope with it.

It is time to introduce myself a little. I have a doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy and I give seminars on weight management, stress management and other issues. Now, I am supposed to be very fit and very healthy. I feel I am still twenty five even though I am sixty one. I started to think about people like myself. The healthy, successful baby boomers who want to live a wonderful long active life. What are our issues? What are our needs?

What are those dreams we had when we were young and we put on the back burner for a little while so we could do what was expected and then forgot?

I decided to develop this web site for us fifty to seventy year olds who still feel very young. As they say, fifty is yesterday’s thirty. In my case I know I’m much fitter than I was thirty years ago. So I and others will research and write about our issues including health, finances, laws and other issues which concern the young middle agers.
